$1 Trillion Hit to the World from Terrorism, says PM Modi at BRICS Summit

PM Modi, addressing the 11th BRICS Summit, showed concerns for safety and peace of the world as acts of terrorism are being deeply injected in the social fabric. He said that terrorism has cost the world $1 trillion, slowing down the growth of the developing nations.


Crux of the Matter


  1. BRICS Summit organized for the first time a seminar on Strategies for Countering Terrorism.

  2. Besides slowing down the growth of the developing economies by as much as 1.5%, terrorism has also claimed the lives of approximately 2.25 lakh citizens around the world.

  3. “The atmosphere of doubt created by terrorism, terror financing, drug trafficking, and organized crime indirectly and deeply harms trade and business. We hope that such efforts and activities of the five working groups will increase strong BRICS Security Cooperation against terrorism and other organized crimes,” said PM Modi.
