27 European Lawmakers Permitted to Visit Kashmir

The government has permitted 27 European lawmakers to visit Kashmir to assess the situation from an international perspective. They wil be the first foreign officials to visit J&K after scrapping of Article 370. The visiting group consists of Members of European Parliament (MEP) from Italy, UK, France,Germany and Poland.


Crux of the Matter


  1. The main motive of this excursion is to raise awareness about terrorism.

  2. There is to be zero tolerance against terrorism, PM Modi asserted.

  3. The MEP’s were briefed by NSA Ajit Doval on cross-border terrorism India faces from Pakistan, in addition to the basic situation of society at Kashmir.

  4. This visit will provide some breathing space for the Indian Government, which was under attack from certain foreign politicians especially US Democrats, for the situation at Kashmir.

The Kashmir Conflict is a territorial conflict primarily between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir region. The conflict started after the partition of India in 1947 as a dispute over the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir and escalated into three wars between India and Pakistan and several other armed skirmishes.
