Bill Gates Overtakes Jeff Bezos as World’s Richest Person

E-commerce giant Amazon’s Founder & CEO Jeff Bezos lost his title as the richest man in the world knocking his fortune down to $103.9 billion because of a 7% fall in shares in after-hours trading and also due to the biggest divorce settlement in history. He was overtaken by Bill Gates, Co-Founder of Microsoft.


Crux of the Matter


  1. Amazon reported a 26% drop in net income in its third quarter, its first profit decline since 2017 resulting into loss of $7 billion in stock value.

  2. As part of divorce settlements in April, Mackenzie Bezos was entitled to Jeff Bezos’ stocks worth around $36 billion.

  3. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is currently worth $105.7 billion, thus once again becoming the world’s richest person.

  4. Jeff Bezos had ended Bill Gates’ 24-year run as the richest man in 2018 and became the first man on earth with a net worth of $160 billion.

  5. Gates debuted on Forbes first-ever billionaire list in 1987 with a net worth of $1.25 billion whereas Bezos debuted on the Forbes 400 list in 1998 with a net worth of $1.6 billion.
