Bill to Strengthen and Safeguard Indian Aviation to be Presented in the Lok Sabha

Adding another bill to the Winter Session of the Parliament, Union Cabinet has given a thumbs up to the Aircraft (Amendment) Bill, 2019. Majorly, the bill amends the fine limit on regulatory or other slippages from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 1 crore.


Crux of the Matter


  1. Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Modi, has passed the Aircraft (Amendment) Bill, 2019 to be passed in the Lok Sabha.

  2. The amendment also aims at enhancing the ambit of regulation of Air Navigation.

  3. It is also being introduced as a part of the fulfillment of the safety norms laid out by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Recently, in the safety and other aviation audits, India ranked below the global average ranking of 65%, according to the ICAO.

  4. Giving more regulatory powers to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), “…the Bill will lead to enhancement in the level of safety and security of aircraft operations in the country” said the official statement.
