  3. Shiv Sena is firm about having its CM and form the government with the external support from NCP and Indian National Congress who have won 44 and 54 seats respectively.

  4. Addressing a press briefing, Chandrakant Patil said, “BJP and Shiv Sena fought under the banner of MahaYuti alliance and since Shiv Sena is not agreeing to Government formation, so we have decided not to insult mandate given by people of Maharashtra & decided not to form the government.”

  5. Speaking to the media Congress Leader Ashok Chavan said, “We are still discussing all options.”

  6. Leaders from both INC & NCP are still in two minds on the decision of supporting Shiv Sena. Else the state would come under president’s rule.

Curiopedia

India’s first-ever coalition government was under the Prime Ministership of Morarji Desai from 24 March 1977 to 15 July 1979, headed by the Janata Party. As the popularity of Janata Party dwindled, Morarji Desai had to resign and Charan Singh became the PM. However, due to lack of support, this coalition government did not complete its five-year term. General election of 1989 once again brought a coalition government which lasted until 1991. The first successful coalition government in India which completed the whole 5-year term was the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance with Atal Bihari Vajpayee as PM from 1999 to 2004. Then another coalition, Congress led United Progressive Alliance ruled India for two terms from 2004 to 2014 with Manmohan Singh as PM. More Info
