Brazil President to be Chief Guest for Republic Day 2020

In an official statement issued, the Brazilian President Mr Jair Bolsonaro has accepted the invitation of Prime Minister Modi to be present as the Chief Guest for the Republic Day, 2020.


Crux of the Matter


  1. Both the leaders met on the sidelines of the 11th BRICS Summit in Brasilia, Brazil.

  2. Both leaders agreed that the two countries can comprehensively enhance their strategic partnership.

  3. The President of Brazil expressed his readiness and informed PM that a large business delegation will accompany him to India.

Jair Messias Bolsonaro is a retired military officer who has been the 38th president of Brazil. He served in the country’s Chamber of Deputies, representing the state of Rio de Janeiro, between 1991 and 2018. He is currently a member of the conservative Social Liberal Party. He graduated from the Agulhas Negras Military Academy in 1977 and served in the Brazilian Army’s field artillery and parachutist groups.
