CEC Announces 5-Phased Assembly Elections in Jharkhand

Election Commission has announced the Jharkhand Assembly Election dates, beginning from 30th November and results on 23rd December 2019. The Election will take place in Five Phases. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora also pronounced the Model Code of Conduct in the state.


Crux of the Matter


  1. The Jharkhand State Assembly’s term expires on 5th January 2020. The BJP-ruled state will undergo Assembly polls from 30th November in 5 stages for 81 seats.

  2. The dates for the elections are 30th November, 7th December, 12th December, 16th December, and 20th December.

  3. The Chief Election Commissioner also added that Income-Tax personnel will be closely monitoring the election expenditure in the Naxalism-ridden state.

  4. Ruling party BJP gave out a list of 52 candidates contesting in the election. CM Raghubir to contest from Jamshedpur (East).

  5. In the coming elections, the pre-poll alliance of Congress, Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD), and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) will allow Congress to contest for 31 seats, RJD to contest for 7 seats, and JMM to contest for 43 seats.
