
A crude bomb explosion shook the premises of the Lucknow court on February 13. It has been reported to have taken place in the Lucknow collectorate in Hazratganj.
Crux of the Matter
Cause of Bombing Locals reported that the blast was due to a dispute between two groups of lawyers on a complaint and it is suspected to be an attempt to attack a lawyer present in the court. Joint Secretary of the Lucknow Bar Association, Sanjiv Kumar Lodhi has claimed that he was the target of the attack because he had complained about a few judicial officers.
Bomber Identification According to the police reports, three live bombs were recovered and nobody appeared to have seen or heard the blast. The bomb used was a locally made explosive device. So far, the police have identified one of the bombers as Jeetu Yadav. A large number of policemen and a bomb disposal squad was rushed to the site and a police inquiry was initiated immediately.
Carnage that Could have been The site of the explosion was barely a kilometer away from the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha. One person was seriously injured in the blast with two people receiving minor injuries. Sanjiv Kumar Lodhi said, “About 10 people hurled crude bombs outside my chamber. One bomb exploded but two remained unexploded.”
Deja Vu for Lawyers The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh asked bar associations to abstain from work in order to put pressure on the government to pass legislation to protect lawyers. There have been recent incidents and reports on attacks after which the lawyers had staged a protest questioning the security of the lawyers and the court premises.
