
The government gave a green signal to an autonomous institute funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to invite Dalai Lama to deliver the 24th annual Radhakrishnan Memorial Lecture. This comes amidst uneasy ties between India and China due to the Jammu and Kashmir issue.

The government’s green signal came after it had refrained from events associated with the Dalai Lama and others engaged in the freedom of Tibet.
Dalai Lama has been accused by China for running a secessionist camp against China in India’s Dharmalasa.
India’s ties with China have also been unsteady due to Beijing’s statements about Pakistan and India’s unilateral decision regarding Jammu & Kashmir.

Dalai Lama is a title given by the Tibetan people for the foremost spiritual leader of the Gelug or “Yellow Hat” school of Tibetan Buddhism, the newest of the classical schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The 14th and current Dalai Lama is Tenzin Gyatso, who lives as a refugee in India. In 2001 the 14th Dalai Lama ceded his partial power over the government to an elected parliament of selected Tibetan exiles. His original goal was full independence for Tibet, but by the late 1980s he was seeking high-level autonomy instead.
