Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully tested its Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) system. The system, which can help in intercepting a moving target, is likely to be deployed into armed forces by 2021.

Crux of the Matter

  1. DRDO conducted a test-fire from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, Odisha.

  2. The fully configured QRSAM was in deployment mode. In the test-fire, it successfully intercepted the target mid-air, accomplishing the mission goal.

  3. QRSAM has fully automated command and control system, surveillance radar, and multifunction radar and launcher.

  4. The radars, which are covered through four walls, have the capacity to cover 360 degrees and to track a moving object.

  5. “With this mission, the developmental trials of the weapon system have been successfully completed and it is expected to be ready for induction by 2021,” according to the statement made by DRDO.
