India to Test Indigenous Underwater Nuclear Missile

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will conduct a developmental trial of nuclear-capable missiles with advanced navigation systems from an underwater platform off Visakhapatnam coast over a period of a month.


Crux of the Matter


  1. K-4 is one of the two underwater missiles that has been developed which is a submarine-launched long-range ballistic missile with a strike range of 3500 kilometres.

  2. Along with K4, supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, intermediate-range ballistic missile Agni-II and short range ballistic missile Prithvi will also be tested.

  3. K-4 has been scheduled on 8 November, BrahMos on 11 November, Agni-II on 16 November and Prithvi on 20 November.

  4. Experts will be having most attention on the underwater missile which is capable of deceiving enemy radars and target important installations deep in enemy countries from a standoff distance.
