
ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi has been killed by US special forces. In a special operation condcuted by US army, Baghdadi was cornered and killed on October 26 near the village of Barisha in Syria. The announcement of his death was made by US president Donald Trump.
Crux of the Matter
Baghdadi, who was born in Iraq, had taken over as the chief of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in 2010.
In the aftermath of the Iraq War in the early 2000s, Iraq and Syria were left in a state of chaos. ISIS had managed to take over a vast area in Iraq and Syria and had declared itself as a Caliphate, with Abu-Bakr assuming the position of the Caliph.
The ISIS were notorious for exerting extreme brutality, undertaking genocides and abusing human rights at unheard of levels in the modern world.
Trump, in his annuncement to the world, mentioned that Baghdadi was cornered and died like a coward while failing to run away from the chasing American forces.
