Khalistan Separatism Hinted, Passports Made Mandatory Amidst Kartarpur Security Concerns

Soon before the Kartarpur Corridor is set to open, Pakistan has released a video containing three Khalistani leaders, a move India is criticizing as it may may fuel separatism in the border state. Amidst security tensions, Pakistan Army has also issued a notice stating that pilgrims, to have a legal entry, will require passports.


Crux of the Matter


  1. Video released by Pakistan depicts three former members of the Khalistani Movement – Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who chaired the Damdami Taksal, Amrik Singh Khalsa, and Shabeg Singh.

  2. Concern was raised by CM Amarinder Singh citing the duality of the nature of Pakistan and the insurgent atmosphere in the border state caused by the ISI backed Khalistani Movement.

  3. Tensions regarding security persist as the first jatha to visit the Guru Nanak Dev include Dr. Manmohan Singh and his family, Captain Amarinder Singh, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Hardeep Singh Puri, and others.

  4. Amidst security concerns, Pakistan Army has announced that the entry, linked to the security mediums, will need to be a legal one and hence, pilgrims will be required to carry passports.
