In a stunning turn of events, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee visited PM Modi on Wednesday with gifts. Seeming to distance herself from previous acrimony, Ms Banerjee showed intent to co-operate with the centre on issues pertaining to WB.
Crux of the Matter
Mamata Banerjee has been a fierce critic of Modi and the BJP in the recent past and opposed the center on every issue. From questioning the Balakot strikes to opposing the abrogation of Article 370, Banerjee, and her party TMC, has been a vocal and at times vitriolic opponent.
Appearing to end the bad blood, the WB CM invited PM Modi to inaugrate the Deucha Pachami mining project and sought support to change the name of the state to Bangla.
She also expressed intent to meet with Home Minister Amit Shah.
This visit comes at a time when probes are ongoing in the Saradha chit scam and against the backdrop of P Chidambaram being jailed for the INX Media scam.
