MVA Prioritises Well-Being of Farmers, Youth, Women over Bullet Train Project

Shiv Sena head Uddhav Thackeray has stated that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project may be stalled as the Maha Vikas Aghadi‘s priority is farmers. Thackeray also announced a halt on the metro car shed construction project on the Aarey area.


Crux of the Matter


  1. Maha Vikas Aghadi – an alliance of Shiv Sena, Congress, and the NCP to form government in Maharashtra – has emphasized the development of farmers, youth, women, and workers as a part of the Common Minimum Programme.

  2. “It was okay when Gujarat and Maharashtra were one state and Mumbai was the capital. You needed that connectivity. I can’t say if this is needed in present times. We are not opposing anything, but our first priority is farmers”, said Shiv Sena Member Deepak Kesarkar.

  3. The bullet train project, which aimed at minimizing the travel distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to 3 hours, received 81% funds from the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The total cost of the project was estimated to be INR 1.08 lakh crores.
