In a transparent move to snub Indian PM Modi and sow dissension in Indian politics, Pakistan Foreign Minister invited former PM Manmohan Singh for the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor. Manmohan Singh is expected to decline the invitation as per Congress.

Crux of the Matter

  1. The last week saw an international diplomatic clash between India and Pakistan at the UN General Assembly.

  2. Indian PM Modi decided to ignore Pakistan and addressed global issues instead. In contrast, Pak PM Imran Khan ranted about Kashmir and made personal attacks at Modi. His speech was met with a sharp rebuttal by the Indian delegation.

  3. The silliness of Pakistani foreign policy continued as their Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, via a video on twitter, invited former PM Manmohan Singh for inauguration event of Kartarpur corridor as a way to snub Modi.

  4. Manmohan Singh has never visited Pakistan during his tenure as PM and is expected to continue the trend by declining the invitation.

The Kartarpur Corridor is an underconstruction border corridor between the neighbouring nations of India and Pakistan, connecting the Sikh shrines of Dera Baba Nanak Sahib (Punjab, India) and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur (Punjab, Pakistan). The corridor is intended to allow religious devotees from India to visit the Gurdwara in Kartarpur, 4.7 kilometres (2.9 miles) from the Pakistan-India border, without a visa. The corridor will reportedly be completed before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in November 2019. More Info
