
Current Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi on Friday got in touch with the Center to suggest the name of Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as his successor.
Crux of the Matter
A proposal was signed by President Ram Nath Kovind appointing Sharad Bobde as the next CJI.
Bobde will be sworn in on 18 November 2019.
He would be the 47th CJI of the country.
The matters of Ayodhya Temple and the Chidambaram INX Media scam case are some of the few issues that are being tackled by the Supreme Court at present. Bobde has acknowledged these issues, and promised a satisfactory and speedy solution to them.

As head of the supreme court, the chief justice is responsible for the allocation of cases and appointment of constitutional benches which deal with important matters of law.
