Second Wave of COVID In Asia As Europe Limps Back?

New Coronavirus cases reported in South Korea and China pose a threat of a second wave of Coronavirus once again. The epicenter Wuhan witnessed its first virus cluster since the lifting of the lockdown. Crux of the Matter


Again Rises the Fear of 2nd Wave China and South Korea (SK) reported 16 and 35 new Coronavirus cases respectively. Wuhan, the origin city of Coronavirus, reported the first virus cluster since lockdown was lifted. The draconian measures taken by the Chinese government helped to stop the spread cycle of Coronavirus infection in China but the newly reported cases pose a new challenge in front of both governments trying to lift-up economies post the first wave of Coronavirus.

The recent rise in number of cases in South Korea was explained by its government to be ‘false positive cases’. SK government clarified that RT-PCR tests identify the non-harmful Coronavirus cases in patients that have been discharged.

Europe Limps Back The German government’s decision to relax quarantine relaxation resulted in the new coronavirus cases in the country. Germany has even decided to restart its famous football league Bundesliga even though many professional players are found COVID-19 positive. But it was also decided that no audience will be allowed. The UK and France are also mulling over relaxing restrictions. Italy, which became the hotspot after China, has flattened the curve and the government has decided to allow some relaxations. However, European countries are cautious over the second wave.


On the other hand, Russia is witnessing a spike in the number of Coronavirus cases with on average 10,000 cases per day since 1st May. The global tally of Coronavirus is around 4.2 million and COVID-19 deaths are around 280,000.
