At an event held by the Air Force in cooperation with Starburst Aerospace where 75 space startups were invited to pitch more than 100 venture capitalists in attendance, CEO of SpaceX, Elon Musk described Starship, the next-generation rocket they are developing, as the key to fully reusing a rocket.

Crux of the Matter

  1. “With respect to space, I think there’s really just one problem, which is a fully and rapidly reusable orbital rocket. This is the holy grail,” Musk said.

  2. The next-generation rocket, Starship which SpaceX is developing is the key to fully reusing a rocket. It is an ambitious project for SpaceX as it is capable of sending people to-and-from the moon and Mars.

  3. Musk believes, If SpaceX can repeatedly launch and land with Starship rocket, it could make space travel much easier, with only minor maintenance needed between flights and fuel as the main cost for an airplane.

  4. SpaceX wants to have Starship in orbit next year. They plan to land on the moon before 2022 with cargo and with people soon after that.
