Swami Vivekanand’s Statue Vandalized at JNU

Obscene messages were discovered on the yet to be unveiled statue of Swami Vivekananda on the Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) campus on Thursday.


Crux of the Matter


  1. The statue is located at the college’s Administrative wing.

  2. The student’s union of JNU has denied any involvement, and would issue a public statement soon.

  3. This defacement comes at the time of ongoing protests by students against hike in hostel fees.

  4. Over the past couple of years JNU has been in the news for some students allegedly raising anti-India slogans while protesting the hanging of a terrorist, blocking of an ambulance for an ailing professor during a gherao and vandalism in the campus during anti-fee hike protests.
