SWAYAM Portal to Make Education More Accessible in India

India’s Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry on the occasion of the National Education Day today has launched the Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM 2.0) portal with an aim to bring equity, accessibility, and quality to education in India using technology.


Crux of the Matter


  1. With the help of 9 National Educational Co-ordinators, the SWAYAM platform would host a plethora of courses and lectures for the curriculum of Class 9 to Post-Graduation, accessible at no or minimal fee.

  2. The portal will deliver education with the combined effort of AICTE, UGC, NPTEL, CEC, NCERT, IGNOU, NIOS, NITTTR, and IIMB.

  3. SWAYAM will render education through video lectures, custom-made material available to be printed, online quizzes and tests, and an online discussion forum.

  4. There is no fee for the courses delivered through the portal. However, for a certificate, a designated fee and examination will be required.

  5. College and university students can get credit transfer for the approved courses as well.
