Unnao Rape Case Convict, Kuldeep Sengar, Sentenced To Life Imprisonment

Unnao Rape Case accused, expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was sentenced life term imprisonment. Court has demanded from him a fine of Rs. 25 lakh of which Rs. 10 lakh would be provided as compensation to the survivor’s mother.


Crux of the Matter


  1. Delhi Court sentenced, Ex-BJP MLA Sengar, imprisonment for the ‘remaining of his natural biological life’ in the 2017 Unnao rape case.

  2. He was charged under Section 376 (rape) under IPC and Section 5(c) and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO).

  3. He was also fined Rs. 25 lakh which are to be paid by him within a month. Failure to pay the fine would lead to seizure of property. Of the fined amount, Rs. 10 lakh would be given as compensation to the survivor’s mother.

  4. “This court does not find any mitigating circumstance. Sengar was public servant and betrayed people’s faith,” said District Judge Dharmesh Sharma.

  5. Trial of four other related cases is still pending. Sengar is alleged of framing rape survivor’s father in unlawful firearms case, of survivor’s father’s death while he was in judicial custody, and of attempting to kill the survivor through an accident. A separate case of gang rape alleged by the survivor is also pending.

  6. Another accused, Shashi Singh, allegedly who was the that brought the minor to Sengar, was given the benefit of doubt by the court and was released.
