WMO Calls Heatwaves Deadliest Weather Hazard

A recent World Meteorological Organization report mentions that heat waves caused due to an average temperature rise of 1.1°C in 2015-2019 are the deadliest weather hazard caused by climate change. From 2000 to 2018 more than 6000 people have died due to heatwaves in India alone, with a third of these occurring in 2015. Meanwhile rising tropical cyclones and hurricanes are causing massive economical losses around the world.
